Gellhorn, Doubled Pessaries, Complex Cases
The WHTA Advanced Pessary Training Course is specifically designed for physiotherapists already trained and practicing in basic pessary fitting (ring and cube) who wish to further enhance their clinical skills in order to provide more complex pessary care.
THE COURSE INCLUDES THREE COMPONENTS
1. ADVANCED THEORY (6hours): $225
In 2026, the advanced theory is being provided within the 2026 Annual Research Update (optional add-on in June)*
The session is 6hours long and will cover:
- sizing and fitting of more complex pessaries (eg gellhorn; doubled pessaries eg gellhorn plus ring underneath)
- application of pessaries in complex cases (eg after breast or gynaecological cancer with GSM)
- the detailed understanding of international recommendations for provision of pessary care
- update on the latest research on pessary management that has been published in the last 3 years.
*NOTE: physiotherapists who have already enrolled and paid for this component as part of their research update will not be charged for this section when they enroll. They will only be charged for the Practical Session.
2. PRE-PRACTICAL PREPARATION (1hour) no fee
All participants will be given access to a 1hour practical preparation video where Taryn will demonstrate the technique for sizing, insertion and removal of gellhorn; and doubled "gellhorn plus ring" pessaries. This is designed to ensure everyone is fully prepared for the advanced practical session so that face-to-face time can be maximized.
THIS VIDEO MUST BE WATCHED in the week prior to the participants practical session.
3. PRACTICAL SESSION (2-2.5hours): $195
a small group face to face practical session (lab) where participants will get the opportunity to practice sizing, insertion and removal of a gellhorn pessary, and observe the insertion / removal technique of a doubled gellhorn plus ring pessary.
IMPORTANT NOTE: PRE-REQUISITE FOR COURSE ENROLMENT
To attend this course physiotherapists must have:
1. already completed the L3 WHTA Advanced POP / SUI Course AND Practical (ring/cube fitting)
2. independently managed (including sizing, insertion, removal) of at least 10 ring / cube pessaries in clinical practice
We apologize but baseline training in pessaries must have occurred through WHTA to attend the Adv Pessary Training Practical
APPLICATION FORM
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT
1. PRACTICAL COMPONENT
Participants attending the practical are expected to volunteer as a model for insertion of GELLHORN PESSARY. We understand that not everyone's anatomy may tolerate insertion of a gellhorn. A limited number of places can be given to people unable to model for an additional fee (+$80)
2. PAYMENT TERMS
After submitting the following application form, applicants should receive confirmation of their 'tentative enrolment' within 1 week. Payment is then required within 1month. Fees not paid within one month will be at risk of being subjected to any course fee increase. However, WHTA is committed to accessible education. Payment plans can be arranged for those experiencing financial hardship. Please email admin@whta.com.au.
3. FUTURE REQUESTS TO CHANGE ENROLMENT
Any requests to change a course enrolment to a different time and date will incur a minimum AUD$80 administration fee. If the change is requested < 1 week before the date of the originally enrolled course the administration fee will change to $150.
